The foundation of all spiritual work, healing, personal evolution, and (gosh) I’d even say life, is intention. There are tons of quotes about intention, whether they’re telling us that good ones may lead us to bad outcomes (the ever-debated “the road to Hell is paved with good intentions”) or they’re swearing by the power of intention and it’s beauty. I’m privy to the latter believe, since in both experience and faith, I’ve come to understand intention as the fuel for all spiritual growth.
Just like how the desire to attain bliss is all you need to actually feel bliss, intention is all you need to reach the goals you have. When I was working these past couple weeks with a mindfulness coaching client, it became apparent just how powerful intention is. With intention, they recognized that nothing could stop them from reaching goals—there might be bumps, challenges to navigate, and things that push the goal in new directions, but so long as the intention was present, there was a never-ending ability to fuel the passion for such a goal.
It’s like this very powerful statement by Anthon St. Maarten:
“Dare to dream! If you did not have the capability to make your wildest wishes come true, your mind would not have the capacity to conjure such ideas in the first place. There is no limitation on what you can potentially achieve, except for the limitation you choose to impose on your own imagination. What you believe to be possible will always come to pass - to the extent that you deem it possible. It really is as simple as that.”
It’s amazing what people achieve even with great limitations, just through the intention to achieve what they want. In my own life, I’ve watched the intention to heal powerfully work, and I’ve seen it happen within others too. The key is that intention is mixed with two things: honest examination and action.
Honest examination provides the knowledge of the obstacles facing our goal. If we look deep within ourself to notice any barriers we might be holding up (the “limitations we choose to impose on ourself”) and limitations in the world for a rational discernment of logistical obstacles, we’ll be empowered with a clear picture of our path forwards.
Action, which we can take after we have the fuel of intention and the clarity of such examination, comes in many forms. The action might be personal, like consciously shifting beliefs and thought patterns to improve self-confidence, or it may be something more active, like training each day to run a marathon. Too often, we leap right into action without fostering clarity or finding the fuel needed for the action first, so understanding the power of intention is integral for all the growth and goals we try to reach in our lives.
The power of intention extends beyond just goal-seeking and into spiritual work as well. Intention is well-known with energy healers as being the lifeblood of the energy itself. With intention, the healer can use their intuition (honest examination) to fuel the healing within another or themselves (action). It’s the exact same pattern, but in a different and more esoteric form.
The next time you want to achieve something, pause before leaping into action and make sure you clearly know your intention and where the fuel for your proverbial fire of accomplishment will come from. Then, check in and make sure you’ve done the necessary self and logical examination of the goal you have. With this, you’ll come to recognize how unstoppable you and your intentions are.
