There’s No Need to Shame Yourself for the Things You Can’t Control

Arien Smith

My Wednesday morning started with an important epiphany: I caught myself having a thought that unrooted some underlying feelings of shame towards a very natural need. With all the radical acceptance work I've been doing lately, I uncovered how irrational this thought was and, with such a powerful realization, I knew I had to share it in this blog.

The Journey Towards Emotional Liberation

Arien Smith

All suffering comes from resisting our emotions. Resistance is a trick of our ego, because feeling the actual emotion—the one we are trying to run away from—is what we must face in order to heal. Healing is what ultimately dissolves the ego, so the ego provides this resistance so that we cannot access healing and cannot liberate the difficult emotions beneath the surface. Our egos tell us that it will hurt more to experience the actual emotion and subsequently tricks us into concealing it as apathy, anger, active resistance, or a whole plethora of other defense mechanisms, but this is false.

Liberating your deepest emotions is possible! With three commonalities on all of our path's of doing so, this journey takes just a few short steps to begin.

Self-Interest Doesn’t Always Come from the Ego

Arien Smith

This week, as promised, I’ll talk more about self-love, self-centeredness, and selfishness and how they relate to the ego. It is a common belief in spiritual communities that it is egoic to act on your own needs. Being “self-centered” as a negative ring to it, whereas it is actually the complete opposite! Although contemporary spirituality and society as a whole often places shame onto a person who acts out of self interest, the Universe actually wants us to be self-centered. Yet, balancing selfishness with healthy self-interest is tricky and rarely discussed, but it is talked about here.

What Really is the Ego?

Arien Smith

Understanding the ego is an important part of any spiritual and healing practice, since dissolving this toxic part of our psyche is the ideal of all major spiritual pursuits. Reaching an ego-free state, whether brief or sustained, has been called many things: Illumination, Enlightenment, Nirvana, Transcendence.

The spiritual understanding of the ego is basically that it is the antithesis of our loving, core self or spirit. Instead of self-aware, it is selfish. Instead of wise, it believes it knows all. Instead of loving, it exploits and manipulates. The ego is what causes us to see ourselves as separate from the Universe, others, and the things that sustain us. The ego is chronically misunderstood, but it is laid out clearly in this article.

Why Do the Brightest People Face the Hardest Challenges?

Arien Smith

It always seems like people with the most to offer, people who share nothing but genuine love with the world, face the worst hardships. It seems to be incomprehensible why this happens, but there is a reason. These people are beings of love, so aligned with the Universe, that they are trusted to survive trial after trial that individual with selfish egos impose on them. The Universe believes in everyone who wants to solely share love.
